Congrats: CHR says No rights violations in Mindanao under Duterte martial law

NO RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN MINDANAO AMID MARTIAL LAW

Malacañang yesterday said that rumors regarding abuses and human rights violations as a result of the declaration of martial law in Mindanao can now be put to rest after the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) reported that it hasn’t received reports on the matter.

“We welcome the remarks of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) that there have been no reports of human rights abuses and/or violations committed by authorities after the President placed the whole island of Mindanao under martial law,” Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

Abella also echoed the earlier statement of President Duterte that he did not declare martial law to stay in power but to protect the country and its people.

“As we said in previous occasions, public safety is foremost in the President’s mind in light of the continuing rebellion in Marawi,” Abella said.
