UPDATE: Residents told to abandon homes amid ongoing firefight

The local government of Inabanga in Bohol has ordered the forced evacuation of residents of Barangay Napo because of the ongoing firefight between joint police and military team and at least 10 armed men on Tuesday morning.

Frank Baylosis, the town’s information officer said, they immediately deployed barangay officials to do house to house visits and convince residents to “abandon their homes for now and move to a safer place” on Tuesday morning.

Baylosis said forced evacuations were also recommended in the neighboring barangays of Canlinte and Maria Rosario.

Exchange of gunfire started early on Tuesday.

Baylosis said the still unidentified armed men entered their town through the Napo river and traveled about two to three kilometers inland to the mountain barangay of Napo.

Residents who spotted the armed group reported their presence to the police.

“Ang mga barangay opisyales amo nang gi mobilize para sa force evacuation tungod sa ongoing ground operations,” he said.

Baylosis said evacuees are now taking temporary shelter in barangay halls and sports centers of neighboring barangays.

Baylosis said he still could not give a headcount of the evacuees because town employees were still on field to facilitate their evacuation and take care of their meals.

The municipal government already deployed personnel to send packed meals and canned goods for the evacuees.

“Kalit man gud kaayo ang nahitabo maong dili tanan ang nahatagn nato ug packed lunch. Ang uban canned goods na lang,” Baylosis said.

But Baylosis said they remain thankful that no civilian casualties have been reported as of noontime.
